Art and overall knowledge of Mary Sue taken from Overly Sarcastic Productions Who or what is Mary Sue? Do people even know? Or are they just using it to trash characters? If you ask me, Mary Sue has become the ultimate insult for characters without people really knowing what their accusation actually is.  Characters who aren’t Mary Sues are accused of Sueness. Mary Sue, in actuality, is a character that is the center of the universe in such a heavy way that they transcend that and become the only real thing in the universe. Mary Sue warps the world around them in such a way that absolutely everything leads back to the Sue. The start of their character is how amazing they are by default. What matters is not their motivation or their backstory, it’s how much the audience is supposed to care. Choice Matters (Spoilers for season 6 of The Dragon Prince: The Mistrey of Aaravos)

With season 6 out, people’s perspective on Aaravos has shifted. Learning of his past with Leola, people have started talking about how Aaravos isn’t evil, he’s just broken, saying he isn’t an inherently irredeemable, but a mourning father. He’s not the first villain fandoms have forgiven because of a tragic backstory. However, this conversation isn’t that simple. Leola’s story is tragic. It broke me as well and I wish it could have turned out differently, but it doesn't and shouldn't excuse anything. People’s posts, claiming that Aaravos is merely broken, seem to be wanting to forget and forgive all his deeds on the basis of this heartbreak. There is something, however, that they forget about.
